Oncology RN needed for one of our clients’ Outpatient Chemotherapy Infusion Center located in Fullerton, CA (Southern CA).  The assignment is to cover an employee who is out on a medical LOA. Ideally the manager is looking for someone with chemo experience but would consider a person with strong IV experience, PICC lines, and port accessing would also be helpful.

We are looking for an Oncology RN to start ASAP, M-F, 7:30am-4:00pm, no weekends, no on-call! This position is temp-to-perm, and would at least last 3 months.

Generally 7 RNs are scheduled each day, there is a pharmacy on site, physicians in clinic daily, and one physician on call each day for emergency issues.  RNs generally have 7-10 patients per day, depending on type of infusion/patient acuity.

The physician is the leader of the health care team that includes mid-level providers, licensed nurses, medical assistants and ancillary personnel including nutritionists, social workers, case managers and care agents. The physician is responsible for coordinating the care of his/her assigned patients, performing necessary care for unscheduled patients with assistance of the health care team. Management of care includes direct-care as needed, referral to appropriate specialists, diagnostic tests and managing continuity of care, including follow up. The physician ensures that care of assigned patients meets the HEDIS and meaningful use benchmarks for which they will receive added compensation in the form of performance bonuses. Management recognizes that this requires a team effort and therefore the entire team will also be incentivized.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides and manages direct patient care: Includes patient care in accordance to quality assurance guidelines; physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis and treatment, performs therapeutic procedures, documents/charts patient information in line with current policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements: Patient management plans, records progress notes, assists in provision of continuity of care. Communicates with patients regarding testing results, follow-up care and additional information. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regiments as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
  • Participates in: Facility in-services, required staff meetings and other clinic operations procedures.
  • Orders: Diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory tests. Interprets test results for deviation from normal. Orientation and training of new practitioners when necessary. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff required.
  • Supervision: Of mid-level practitioners when appropriate and abide by all associated rules and regulations.

 

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Medicine, currently licensed by the State Board of Medical Examiners and Board Certified in a specialty field of medicine.
  • Board eligibility or certification in Family Practice, maintains a State of California Physician License and maintains the ability to obtain credentialing approval.
  • Must have and maintain a DEA License with no restrictions.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in business applications and clinical management systems (Electronic Medical Record). Relevant drugs and their chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. Non-pharmaceutical patient care aids, their applicable uses and relevance to patient care.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical valuation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Accreditation and certification requirements and the ability to maintain all appropriate licenses. Urgent and occupational medicine fields.
  • Professional communication principles and practices including business letter writing and advanced report preparation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Interpret the application of HIPAA and OSHA laws. Applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations including the requirements of the HIPAA and OSHA and applicable state rules and regulations pertinent to medical practices.
  • Ability to perform duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of the applicable State Board of Medicine and other such regulating bodies.
  • Prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage. This includes uses of chemicals, their interactions, danger signs, production techniques and disposal methods.
  • Maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
